January 29 2013. The field of Precision Gemstone Faceting is constantly evolving and the Custom Gemstone Studio Website along with it. We are pleased to add the new faceting design feature to our growing database.
Simple Trilliant by Wille Klaje
There are currently a multitude of online locations where gemstone designs may be found, and it is our hope that designs entered on The Studio will eventually end up in a master database – yet to be established.
Options for publishing new designs currently present themselves on Facebook – easily buried with new posts; the GemologyProject – a wonderful database but a wiki style format that is hard to interface for the average user; and the United States Faceters List bulletin board accessible for specific yahoo subscribers and not easy to search. In addition there are various excellent single designer pages and also somewhat stagnant databases spread across the web, one in particular seemingly mired in legal controversy and not easily accessible by new faceters.
The Custom Gemstone Studio database will hopefully serve as a collection of designs until a better library is established that can incorporate the multitude of online designs options. Personally I’d like to see this under the guise of the United States Faceting Guild – it’s the proper place.
Faceting Design on The Studio
There are a few bugs to work out with this new Studio option and a simple reediting is scheduled to The Studio’s submission page. In the meantime if you would like to enter a design, register to the site and use the submission page, or simply send me your designs via email and I’ll add them as I find time. Designs accompanied with photos of gems or nice computer simulations of the designs will be featured on the home page along with the other gems featured. Simple simulated designs will be featured via the internal pages.
Also, If you would like to serve as a faceting design editor – simply let me know.
