EDITOR’S NOTE: There are several classes of gemstones that are most familiar to gemstone enthusiats. Precision Faceted – or Custom Cut, Commercial Cut, and Native Cut – or Traditional Cut.
A gemstone faceted for competition represents the pinnacle of the precision faceted category, and I would consider these stones that receive a high score to be in a class by themselves. These gems do not make it to market as the stone generally represents hour and hours of painstaking labor and are faceted under exacting specifications.
