More Information about The Gemstone Studio

The Custom Gemstone Studio, or Gemstone Studio for short, is a new site designed to promote the art of the custom faceted gemstone. Closely associated with One World Gemstone the Gemstone Studio is a portfolio based web site to showcase the fantastic art and world of the custom faceted gemstone.

The Gemstone Studio will soon be accepting photo contributions from collectors, enthusiasts, hobbyists, faceters, artists and craftspeople that fashion this amazing work. If you simply love gemstones you are warmly encouraged to display your portfolio.

The colored stone and jewelry industry is a market dominated by commercial and native cut gemstones. Some are produced en masse by the bucket full, and some are pure jewels in beauty. The commercial and native cut stones will continue to find homes on 90% of the other gem sites that populate the web; the Gemstone Studio is reserved for the custom faceted gemstone.

Custom Faceted by Roger Dery

Although the primary emphasis is on the custom faceted stone, all other categories are encouraged but with the same publishing guidelines as One World Gemstone. Roughly 75% of all portfolio material must fall in the custom faceted category, the 25% “other” category is for anything else jewelry or gem related. The “other” category may include diamonds, cabochons, native cut gems, specimens, jewelry, and just about anything else worn or collected as ornament. As long as it’s jewelry, gem, or mineral related, it fits the “other” category.

Publishing exceptions will be made for high quality gem rough. A reliable supply is important to the field as a whole the Gemstone Studio will support this as much as possible, and within reason. The definition of high quality is specifically facet grade rough.

Subscribers’ photos will be displayed as a portfolio in either grid or list format with a comment section opening directly below each individual post. The individual portfolio may be used to list gems for sale, gems in a collection, a project underway, or your favorite gemstones of all time. The portfolio is limited only by your imagination.

The Gemstone Studio was developed quickly to get it up and running and will remain a work in progress over the coming months. The category guidelines are meant to be flexible but the bottom line is 75% of the work represented by an individual must be in the custom faceted category.

As the monthly editions of One World Gemstone continue, the work featured on the Gemstone Studio will be an ongoing source of inspiration sometimes directly incorporated into the monthly format.
